Direct Support Professionals provide care to individuals with intellectual & developmental disabilities as well as the elderly.
Our mission is to help our consumers live happy, healthy, and fulfilling lives.
Depending on the needs of the consumers and assigned program, a DSP provides assistance with daily living skills, health maintenance and medication administration, personal care, and behavioral development.
DSP's may work in Group Homes, Supported Living sites, and/or Waiver homes.
An emphasis is placed on Active Treatment and creating a family-like environment that encourages independence and reaching the individual's fullest potential.
DSP's advocate for the consumers to be fully integrated into community life.
Advocacy - assists consumers with achieving personal goals; works on behalf of consumers to overcome barriers; helps consumers participate in activities of their choice; respects consumer's personal beliefs, choices, and interests and motivates them to be as independent as possible.
Health Maintenance - Provides care and assistance to promote good health; helps consumers receive medical care and communicates with medical professionals as instructed; administers medications according to physician instructions as program dictates; records information regarding health events, conditions, and status; provides First Aid/CPR ad seeks emergency medical care when needed Personal Care - Helps consumers with eating, grooming, dressing, bathing, and toileting; assists consumers with their mobility including lifting them from a seated or prone position, helping them walk and maintain stability Daily Living Skills Development - Helps consumers develop daily living skills such as cooking, money management, household shopping, doing laundry, personal hygiene, etc.
; records progress on skill development and achievement on daily progress notes, tracking sheets, and timekeeping as applicable.
Behavior Development - Serves as role model and mentor, demonstrating the desired behaviors, and coaches the consumers using approved techniques and strategies; Environmental Support - Maintains cleanliness of home/site; encourages consumers to complete home cleaning tasks Transportation - Drives vehicle in Supported Living/Waiver Homes to transport consumers to activities, doctor appointments, workshop, community jobs, etc.
Operational Support - Completes tasks that are beyond the consumer's abilities; follows policies and procedures for handling consumer/household money.
Staff will be available/flexible to work scheduled hours and as needed by the consumer.
Professional Behavior - Represents McSherr in a professional manner at all times; communicates effectively with others; completes training programs; attends mandatory meetings; Job Type:
